Ahead of its launch at the Mobile World Congress 2018 (MWC), pictures of a prototype of the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact have made it to the internet. The leaked pictures reveal a design inspired by Sony’s Xperia plate + human concept.
While the Xperia XZ2 Compact does seem to be more curved around the corners when compared to other Xperia smartphones, it does seem a bit thick in the leaked image and misses out on the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact specifications
Sony has remained fairly tight-lipped for the most part about its plans for MWC 2018. However, the company posted a teaser on social media yesterday, hinting at a curved design that fits in palms easily. The leaked images of the XZ2 Compact prototype fit in with the concept revealed in the teaser, so this could actually be close to the final design of the next Compact branded Xperia smartphone.
Earlier, a leak suggested that Sony could launch the Xperia XZ2 Compact with a 5-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, suggesting that we could see a HD+ or a FHD+ resolution display. However, despite the small-sized display, Sony is expected to use flagship hardware – the XZ2 Compact could be powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.
In terms of optics, the Xperia XZ2 Compact could come with a 19MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. A 3,000mAh battery is expected to power the phone.
Sony at MWC 2018
At the MWC 2018 next week, Sony could launch as many as three smartphones, namely the Xperia XZ2 Pro, the Xperia XZ2 and the Xperia XZ2 Compact. All the three smartphones are expected to be powered by the latest flagship chipset from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 845.
